origin

seyclair name

Seyclair is a name rooted in meaning.
Sey
comes from “sea” - fluid, ever-changing, limitless, like a sea of possibilities.
Clair comes from “clear” - a reflection of clarity, vision, and purpose.
Together, Seyclair represents women who move with ease, adapt effortlessly, and carve their own path with a clear vision of the future.

A modern minimalist with a curated, impeccable sense of style. Aspires to maintain a capsule wardrobe, yet is tempted by contemporary trends. Always playing at the border between wanting to invest solely in long-lasting pieces that never go out of style and splurging on trendy items that provide a sense of fulfillment and dopamine.

#1 how it started

As a woman working in the corporate world (or, as I like to call it, corporate girly), I found myself struggling to find the right handbags. I didn’t want something overly trendy, but I also didn’t want something outdated. I wanted high-quality, durable materials - something that looked and felt luxurious without a price tag that made my wallet cry.

At the same time, I became increasingly frustrated with some of the so-called “investment” pieces I had bought. Bags that were supposed to be luxury splurges turned out to be disappointing - hardware that tarnished (and even peeled), stitching that started coming undone. I realized that for the price I was paying, I expected better.

Fine, I'll do it myself.

#2 how it was built

I spent the next year on a deep dive into the world of design, leather craftsmanship, and the intricate process of making handbags. I sketched. Read. I traveled, met with designers who had worked for some of the biggest luxury brands, and visited as many manufacturers in major leather artisans spots as I could convince to let me in. Many were skeptical - understandably so, since they worked with major brands, and I was a newcomer - but I was determined.

Then came the long sampling process. I ordered batch after batch, and most turned out to not be up to the standard I was looking for. During this time, I worked on various designs, most of which haven't (and might never) make it to production. This was an invaluable lesson for me into the world of leather craftmanship - I learnt about what is and what isn't possible to turn from a design to a reality.

At times it felt it would be easier to just settle for lower quality. But if I couldn’t get the bags made exactly how I wanted, what was even the point?

#3 how it came to light

It took around 40 samples to finally find the artisans who I found were the right choice for Seyclair. Yay!

What followed were months of artisan visits, refining designs, testing, adjusting prototypes, selecting materials, perfecting craftsmanship, immersing myself in the production process and ensuring every detail met my standards.

Along with the product side came also bureaucracy, logistics, packaging, and all the behind-the-scenes work of launching a brand. But with full confidence in my product - its quality, its craftsmanship - everything else became just another step in the process. At the end of the day, that’s what really maters.

behind the brand

I never saw myself as 'the face behind Seyclair'. I guess a more fitting term would be the face behind every detail.

To me, the faces behind this brand are all those who have believed in it from the very beginning. It’s my family, the first people to subscribe to our newsletter. It's my unpaid 'business consultant', the one who pushes me when I hesitate and steadies me when I rush ahead (your rates are unbeatable!). It’s my friends, doubling as content creators on a weekend trip. It’s the master artisan who told me they truly believe in Seyclair because I have an incredible eye for design. It’s everyone who spent the day freezing in the snow during a photoshoot because I had a vision.

Seyclair isn’t a corporate machine - it’s built on real people, real passion, and a whole lot of heart. And now, you’re part of it, too. Thank you!
